2008
Water Level Forecast:
Smith Mountain
Lake region has received generous amounts of rain in
2008 and summer water levels look to be excellent,
pending releases for power as the demand calls for it.
The lake water level should remain at near, if not, full
pond throughout most of the summer season making it
ideal for boating, fishing and swimming as well as all
other recreational activities.
Please Note:
No one can accurately predict
long-term rain fall for the region, thus the information found here
is subject to unknown variables. This information
is based on recent trends, and first hand observations in
weather patterns.
Update
05-10-08:
Smith Mountain Lake water
levels are back to normal, and have been since mid February of 2008.
We do not foresee unusually low water levels for the summer of 2008.
Update
10-28-07:
The Smith Mountain Lake
water level continues to rise at a steady pace. As of today, the
mudflats along the shoreline are finally under water once again. We
anticipate the lake will be at full pond in five more days, provided
AEP does does over indulge in power generation during this critical
refill time.
Update
10-26-07:
The Smith
Mountain Lake water shed has suddenly begun to receive
moderate to heavy sustained rainfall for days now. The
rain is expected to continue for a couple more days. As
you can tell from the above chart, the Smith Mountain
Lake water is now rising quickly and thus the lake is
now on the fill.
