MISSION STATEMENTS OF
PARTICIPATING CHARITIES
2007 SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE CHARITY HOME TOUR
BEDFORD CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES ASSOCIATION, INC.
(Bedford)
Bedford Christian Ministries Association, Inc. has been established
to provide a centralized, ecumenical ministry of spiritual support
and material relief to the people of the Bedford City and County
area. BCMA carries out this objective by: (1) promoting cooperation
among local congregations and other community agencies, in order to
achieve a coordinated effort to improve the quality of life for both
individuals and families and (2) by establishing a central location
in Bedford City or County for an easily accessible, informal
Christian presence among those in need.
CHILDREN’S ADVOCACY PROGRAMS OF THE BLUE RIDGE, INC. (Rocky
Mount)
CAPS provides quality services and programs for children and
families that promote the well being of children through advocacy,
education, and collaboration within the community.
HELPING HANDS OF FRANKLIN COUNTY (Rocky Mount)
Helping Hands of Franklin County exists to serve the emergency needs
of the people of Franklin County. We believe in the goodness and
dignity of each individual and support this belief by treating each
person with compassion, respect, and confidentiality. We offer
emergency assistance where appropriate and we stand ready to assist
each person we serve with a more permanent solution to their
problems through counseling and referrals.
LAKE CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES, INC. (Moneta)
Lake Christian Ministries provides emergency financial aid, food,
clothing, and other household items to individuals and families at
or below the poverty level who live in the Smith Mountain Lake area
of Bedford and Franklin Counties. Our clients are unable to obtain
the critical medical, food, and housing expenses they need due to
unemployment, illness, family disruptions, or other unexpected
occurrences. Our mission is based on providing these essentials in a
loving and Christian atmosphere.
LYNCHBURG DAILY BREAD
(Lynchburg)
The mission of Lynchburg Daily Bread is to provide a shelter where
individuals in need can be fed nutritious meals at no cost in a
Christian atmosphere. Additionally, the Daily Bread provides a
setting where the clients can interact with each other and the many
compassionate community volunteers.
MEALS ON WHEELS OF THE GREATER LYNCHBURG AREA (Lynchburg)
Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lynchburg Area is a service designed
to assist the frail, elderly, and younger disabled shut-ins of
Lynchburg and the immediate contiguous counties by providing them
with one balanced, nutritious, hot meal (lunch) five days per week.
The program is for those persons who cannot cook for themselves,
have no one to cook for them, and may be unable to leave their home
for meals. This service allows people to stay in their homes,
maintain some independence, and avoid living in costly institutions,
a financial benefit to the client and the community.
ROANOKE VALLEY INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (Salem)
Our mission is to mobilize faith communities to return homeless
families to independence by providing skills development and
temporary housing.
SALEM AND ROANOKE COUNTY FOOD PANTRY (Salem)
Our Bylaws state that the purpose of the Food Pantry is to provide
food to those in need within our service area. In an effort to meet
immediate food needs, referrals are made by local churches and The
Department of Social Services, as well as other agencies. |
